ABOUT US
TO KNOW JESUS & MAKE HIM KNOWN
BELONG. BEYOND. BECOME.
BELONG - creating family
Our church welcomes EVERYONE and is for all members of our local community. We are a family, unexplainable, but for Jesus' love and grace.
BEYOND - reaching our community
We want to:
▪ Be Good News of Jesus, through being committed to justice and empowering those doing it tough in the community. We do this principally through the ministry of Bayview Care.
▪ Share the Good News of Jesus in our local Neighbourhood, our Nation and all Nations.
BECOME - making disciples (developing people)
Bayview is a church where lives are transformed. We help people become the best 'me' they can possibly be.
At various stages in the early 2000s Red Hill and Tootgarook Churches of Christ discussed the possibility of amalgamation. But it wasn't until 2007, after many meetings that the two churches agreed to close their doors and become one congregation. Traditionally, such amalgamations are incredibly difficult - both congregations were ageing, declining in size and had differing cultures. However, through the guiding influence of two highly experienced church leaders in Ted & Marge Keating, the process was successfully and healthily negotiated. A new congregation, Bayview Church was launched with about 45 people. With the proceeds of the sale of the two churches assets, a disused Telstra warehouse and a former child care centre were purchased and a building program commenced. In January 2014, the building development was completed with facilities including: auditorium, a large communal area for hospitality, a range of rooms for kids programs, outdoor playgrounds and administration/office space. We are indebted to those who have gone before us for pioneering and paying the price to establish Bayview Church.
Our core beliefs are in line with the “Shared Values” of the Church of Christ Movement and can be found here:
Our Values
1.Jesus is front and Centre.
(We are a family, unexplainably held together but for Jesus' love and grace. We are Kingdom-focused and celebrate transformed lives).
2. Everyone is welcome, valuable, and invited to get involved.
(We are inclusive and non-judgmental and celebrate everyone’s faith journey).
3. We are a family giving ourselves away in care and mission
(to each other, the people of the Peninsula, the nation and the nations).
4. We take nothing for granted.
(We respond to God's grace with gratitude and generosity).
Our Culture
As a Leadership Community, we are a Team committed to serving the church and our community by:
1.Placing prayer and intimacy with God first through our daily rhythms, team and church life. (Luke 10:37, Psalm 46:10)
2.Celebrating each team member's strengths, gifts and talents (the gold) and highlighting each other's "wins." (1 Thess 5:11)
3.Valuing creativity, compassion and courage. (Gen 1:1, Micah 6:8, Josh 6:8)
4.Being loyal to each other, we weigh our words and avoid personal criticism, discrimination, and gossip. When we communicate the truth, we do so gently and lovingly. (Galatians 5:22)(James 3:9, Phil 2:1, Matt 7:1)
5.Growing together, we are a team that is accountable, vulnerable, and authentic enough to change. In our journey together, we prioritize each other's well-being as our topmost concern. (John 15)
